What is Website Traffic?
About a decade ago, when people talked about traffic, they were probably referring to the crawl of the vehicles on the highway or how they got stuck somewhere downtown. With the boom of the internet, more traffic is better than no traffic. Website traffic is actually one of the driving forces behind websites nowadays, without traffic then your site is dead.
Back in the infancy of the internet, if you wanted to drive visitors to your site, you simply had to add a couple of lines of meta code and submit to a few free search listings and then you’re golden. It’s no longer this easy today with hundreds of thousands of websites competing for visitors and hits with each other. Now it has become really time consuming and believe it or not, there are full-time jobs available just to make sure that website owners get the traffic they want.
If you can’t afford to hire a full team of SEO experts then don’t fret too much, there are still ways that you can improve your site to attract people to it. While these tips may look very basic to a lot of experts out there, it’s still good to review them because if your site lacks these basic things then you’re in big trouble. The list is in no particular order.
* Have a consistent theme – people love coming to a site which has a consistent theme throughout. Make sure that the theme on your front page is the same as the one in all of the content pages. Nothing conveys that feeling of professionalism than a well-made and properly color coordinated website.
* Add the appropriate buttons – while it may seem like a thing that newbies do, don’t forget to add the appropriate buttons to your site. Simple buttons like the “Favorite” or “bookmark” or “Recommend” can do wonders for your site if they’re used and can break your site if people can’t find it. Place these buttons somewhere prominent but don’t make them draw the attention from your content.
* Check your links – Be sure to make sure that all of your links in your site still work and they’re up to date. Some webmasters don’t appreciate this but it’s really very frustrating for users to click on a dead link on any site. In this case, remember that Google is your friend because you can always search for free link-checking services out there.
* Give advice – A great way to draw people to your page is to be an expert and participate in discussions that occur in forums and boards. Every time that you give credible advice, you’re adding value to your name and site, plus the signature area is just free ad space waiting to be utilized. Make sure that you give real advice though and not just spam as spam will just turn off people and get you blacklisted.
