Internet Marketing For The Real World: Strategies For Success
If you were to believe one set of internet marketing myths, you would have already started a website or blog and are awaiting the thousands of dollars that should inevitably follow. If, on the other hand, you believe another set, you equate those types of websites with scams and click fraud. As with most extremes, the reality is somewhere in the middle.
The good news is that most of us do not need that level of success. We would be perfectly happy with a simple steady stream of income that would allow us to put away a little extra here and there and give us a little extra spending cash. If we are very successful, we might even be able to quit our day jobs.
One of the first myths most people come across is the get rich with no effort tale. This is the one that tells of getting a free website, throwing together some content, adding a banner at the top of the site that pays for clicks and raking in the dough. The first clue that this is a myth is the fact that, while you have certainly seen sites with flashy banners across the top of the page, you have likely neither clicked on the banner for most of them, nor seen others make a habit of clicking these things or even looking at them with anything other than annoyance or contempt.
Maybe you have a blog with a few ads on the side and a banner across the top of the page. If so, then you may have also realized that, in general, the vast majority of people who visit your site aren’t clicking those ads. This should not be a surprise.
Beginning marketers try to put links in noticeable places on their sites. This step is why pop-ups exist and why some are even triggered by people trying to get away from your site. If you think this is a valid business model, think again. Consider whether you would actually click those links while surfing online. If you would not click them, most others will not either.
That does seem to suggest that there is more to this than myths. Upon doing some research, you will realize that the people who fail are, by and large, the people who bought into the previous myth. Making money on the internet is totally possible, but only with a viable strategy to guide them past the obstacles that come their way.
There is a better strategy for online business. There is a way to bring in customers and get them to visit your advertisers without resorting to deceit or assuming your visitors are stupid or dishonest. The solution is the same one used by businesses even before the internet existed!
Provide it consistently and with quality. Then develop a base of repeat visitors and then provide products, services or links to products or services that are consistent with your content and relevant to your visitor. Through internet marketing, you are just giving your idea audience the products that they already are looking to buy in the first place.
