Is Your Affiliate Review Website Bleeding You Dry?

An incredibly popular and simple affiliate business model is the affiliate review website model. It’s simple, but not easy.

In fact, many affiliate marketers get excited when they learn about the “affiliate review website” model because they think it’s something anyone can do.

Actually, it’s true anyone can do it. The important question is “how do you create one that works?”

By works, I’m referring to earning affiliate commissions.

Sure, it’s not terribly expensive to launch a product review site… get a hosting account, a free WordPress theme, and voila, you’re in business.

However, your business may be bleeding you dry; perhaps not in terms of money, but in time.

I’ve written dozens of reviews; hundreds in fact. It’s a sweat-equity business model. Put in the time writing reviews, and you hope you attract buyers and earn affiliate commissions.

However, so many affiliate websites earn nothing, or so little it hardly makes the enterprise worth it.

On the other hand, there are some affiliates earning a great deal of passive income with these types of websites.

How do you stop the bleeding?

If you’re not earning any commissions, then it’s time to circle the wagons and go back to basics.

4 Tips for improving your affiliate website

1. Start with publishing one killer review.

Which product do you use and love the most? Start with that product and set out to write the best article on the web about it. This will be your flagship product article. Don’t worry, you can add more later. Just get one earning right now.

2. Add supporting articles linking to your flagship article.

One simple review isn’t going to cut it. Do some keyword research on your flagship product and write additional articles about the product your promote. Consider tutorials, list articles, feature descriptions, etc. Then link from these supporting articles to your flagship article.

This is a step many affiliate miss, but it’s an important one.

TIP: Write a product buying guide for your site. It could be a single article or a whole series of articles (I do the series approach). This is excellent content and informs consumers.

Note, don’t insert affiliate links in your supporting articles and buying guide – instead link to the review(s).

3. Always be linking to your flagship product article.

You need to be driving traffic to your review. Get laser focused about always be driving traffic to your flagship article from within your site and from outside your site.

4. Once you have one earning well, publish another.

Once you have a review that is generating affiliate commissions and is converting reasonably well, it’s time to create another one. Do the same process with supporting articles linking to the flagship product article from within your site and outside.
