Social Media and Marketing
If you’re talking about marketing, the first thing that comes to mind would be on how many people a campaign can reach and if the message will be effective, basically numbers. With social media marketing, the first thing that you need to accomplish is to get a high number of contacts on your profile page. Just like traditional advertising and marketing, the more views you get on your profile, the better exposure you have.
The higher your follower count on Facebook or twitter, the better the first impression people will have when they first check out your profile or page. The more followers you have, the more likely it is that they’ll stop and browse your profile to see the reason why someone has a lot of people following him or her. If you have just a few friends on your list then there’s a huge possibility that they’ll just skim over your profile and move on to the next.
Another reason why you need to keep your numbers up when talking about Facebook and other social media marketing methods is that you have a bigger chance of going viral if you have a lot of followers. You don’t need everyone on your list to re-tweet or re-post your idea, all you need is a percentage of that, and a percentage of their contacts and so on to create a chain reaction. Once an idea gets passed around and it gets going, you’ll be surprised at how fast it can travel around the world and get back to you.
After raising a good number of followers, the next step would be to create a reputation as being someone of an authority figure in your field. The internet is such that saying something does not mean that you are actually that thing. A good reputation takes some time to build, it is not something that you inherit or you create overnight with a few well-placed SEO tricks.
The first step to gaining a good reputation is that you must show to the people that you are willing to help them achieve THEIR goals first before yours. The best way to do this would be to help people on different forums and twitter pages after which you’d gain a contact and some reputation points for that. While it may sound like a chore, it will all pay off in the end.
Once you’ve make a name for yourself and you’re confident about the number of people on your list then it’s time to get on to the meat of the marketing. Just remember to take it slow and easy, much like seduction, as most people will respond to that type of tactic. Start off with small teasers and make them want more.
Don’t go gung-ho and start hard-selling them things right off the bat. This would look like such a huge deviation from the reputation that you have built up that you’ll alienate even those whom you’ve helped previously. As with anything in life, social media marketing needs patience.
