Steps On Financial Freedom – Spend Your Money Wisely

Once I was a child, I love to sit outside our apartment while watching the stars brightly shining during the night. I am in fact hoping to see a falling star so that I can wish. I wish to have a penny so tomorrow; I could buy myself an ice cream. Whenever I grow older, I am still wishing having a dollar so I can also avail of the trendy shoes that my neighbor has. Now that I got a good job, I wish to have my own house and car.

As I grow older, I think about my future. What will happen to me if I have no longer a job? I realized that waiting for the falling star to grant my wishes is not enough. I need to do something. When I want to have an assured and independent future, I must follow the steps on financial freedom that my mom taught me.

Coming from a middle class family, I experienced being denied when I asked some money from my mom. But in fairness with my mom, she said that maybe next time she could buy me a toy if she has extra money. She explained that we need prioritize first our food, school allowance and bills. When we went to the market or to the mall, I observed that she is always bringing with her a small notebook and a pen. Later, I’ve learned that she has a checklist for the items that she needs to buy. That way, she could prevent over-spending and buying unnecessary items.

At a young age, I could see how my mom strived hard to earn a living, how she budgeted the amount wisely and spent her money smartly. Now I fully understand why she gave me a piggy bank for my 10th birthday. Whatever extra money we have should be kept as a saving for future use and any unpredicted incidents. Earn and save. These are the two steps on financial freedom that my mom instilled in me. This is the most important knowledge that she let me realized from the beginning. Yet knowledge is not enough, we must put this into action just like what my mom did.

Mothers surely know what is best for their children. My mom’s steps on financial freedom will surely direct me how to become wise with my money. By the way, my mom is a single parent. See how great and smart she is. I will become smart too!
