What Is Affiliate Marketing?

Affiliate Marketing is the most popular way to promote someone elses, or your own, product or service. People are paid whenever something is sold in this format. So if you sell an information product, and you were working with affiliates, you would pay them to deliver sales to you…sounds awesome right?

This marketing method is HUGE in popularity and only growing. Having your own affiliate system is great for internal use when you get large enough; however, when starting out I would suggest using Clickbank. Clickbank is the #1 method people are using to get their online business or affiliate program up and running. It automates the entire process, including the tracking, payments and link building. You only have to upload your offer and your off to the races!

There are 3 major ways in which compensation is organized:

#1: CPC (Cost Per Click) – This is a relatively popular way to market products, in which you get paid very little JUST to drive clicks to certain offer. I wouldn’t suggest starting with this method because you wouldn’t have to drive certain types of traffic, and it limits your niche ability.

#2: CPS (Cost Per Sale – and there are in fact 2 different forms of this as well) – I love this form of marketing. You will get paid anytime you drive someone to a page and make a sale. The two different forms of this are CPA marketing and Affiliate Marketing (JV marketing). If you are acting as a JV you normally only get a % of the sale value; however, in CPA you get (often times) more than what the product costs.

#3: CPL (Cost Per Lead) – Now, a lead can be anything but mostly refers to the acquisition of a potential clients information. Whether that’s their Zip code, cell phone number, name, email address…the list goes on and on honestly. I think this is the best way to get started, you get great payouts often times (if you are in the right CPA Network) and this ads up quickly and relatively easily.
