What Is Scary About Developing A Effective Advertising And Marketing Business On The Internet?
So really, for many of us, the paralyzing fear of success probably lies somewhere within our past. I’ll bet for everyone who claims the fear of success as one of their limiting beliefs, there’s something in his or her early child hood programming that involved some kind of external element – measuring them selves against a standard, having to do more as a result of a goal not reached, and maybe even the overshadowing of somebody else’s accomplishments (a younger sibling, another classmate, a friend).
Our upbringing and our early conditioning is founded on elements we are able to comprehend as kids in whose thought and logical thinking ability just are not physically matured yet. We all learn concepts such as sharing through our physical senses, thus we just cannot comprehend the reason why we would have to give half our bag of candy to our younger brother since it means we only have half left.
We learn that sharing means losing and we translate that to the sharing of information as we grow up. Keeping our ideas close to the vest means that we won’t have to lose our intellectual property. We see that we can be right about seeing the world the way we’ve always seen it, and wonder why dosen’t everyone else see things the exact way we do.
And that’s only one area. Our very own worthiness in addition to our realized connection with money are a couple of areas that might keep us stuck. “In the event that I can make a lot of money, after that I’ll have to worry about how not lose it.” “When I get that huge home, then I will need to clean it.In the event that my business is actually prosperous, then I’ll need to put in more hours.” We fall back into those outdated patterns, and more often than not we think that we are usually right – even if what we’re correct about has stopped being correct , it gets to be more necessary than living in a whole new reality.
This is actually a phenomenon called “Impostor syndrome,” which, according to Wikipedia, is the belief by some people that regardless of what level of success they may have achieved in their chosen field of work or study or what external proof they may have of their competence, they remain convinced internally they do not deserve the success they have achieved and are actually frauds.
Although much evidence points to their true success, they dismiss it as luck, timing, or as a result of deceiving others into thinking they were more intelligent and competent than they believe themselves to be.
The truly interesting thing about concepts like this Impostor Syndrome is the fact that it’s real to the people who experience it and people who don’t, can’t even fathom it. Fear of success? How crazy is that? You don’t want to make more money? You’re nuts! You undoubtedly sabotage your own victories so others won’t feel bad who are around you (those are the phony phonies , individuals who don’t actually identify with the Impostor Syndrome, but feel they should!).
So, could it be enough to merely know about this syndrome and to identify with it in some way? Or are we really prepared to get beyond it? Perhaps rather than looking for the answer, which in a few ways comes from outside yourself which is someone else’s way of solving an unpleasant situation, we might fare better to come up with a very compelling WHY for actually getting past this limiting belief.
I understand when the Why is large enough, the how!!! mysteriously materializes and then we all uncover options we did not have any idea we knew.
